Cover Up Tattoos

Do you have a tattoo that you no longer like or which you can no longer identify yourself with? In that case, a Cover Up Tattoo can be the solution. Cover up tattoos are inked over an existing tattoo so that the old tattoo is no longer visible. You can benefit from our many years of experience so let us advise you in the studio to find the best solution for you.

Cover an Existing Tattoo

Here at Lebende Legend Tattoo, we love to create amazing body art that helps people express their personality. However, it may happen that a person’s passion and preferences change and you come to us with an existing tattoo that you are no longer obsessed with.

In these cases we usually discuss the possibility of a cover up tattoo. There are many questions that can come up regarding the cover up tattooing, and we want you to feel comfortable with the whole process. That’s why we’ve put together some of the most common questions below.

Before & After Examples

Any tattoo can be concealed, but getting the job done right requires a collaboration between the artist and the person looking for a cover-up. Not only do we want to cover your tattoo, but we also want you to love your new design. Every redesigned tattoo is treated very carefully.

Cover ups usually need to be larger than your original tattoo. Your artist will work with you to create something special that suits your style and your expectations. If you have a great cover idea, make sure you have a conversation with your artist first.

The goal of a tattoo is to turn your original tattoo into a new work of art – something you can proudly present to the world. For this reason, our covers are not charged more than our standard rates. We want you to be pleased with your new tattoo and treat it as if you were getting fresh ink – as you are! For tattoos that last 4 hours or less, we calculate piece by piece. With coverage that lasts more than 4 hours, we charge by the hour.

Do you want the cover to be done right and look good? This means your old tattoo will be completely covered and disguised by the new design. To make sure your cover turns out properly, it can take longer than a standard tattoo because your tattoo artist has to work the piece a few times more than usual. Other factors, such as the intensity of the original ink and the type of art your tattoo artist chooses also affect the time it takes to complete the tattoo. Since the time may vary from person to person, we recommend that you first arrange a consultation with your artist to get an opinion on how long it will take for your tattoo cover up process to last.

You want to make sure your tattoo artist is familiar with the new design. That’s why it’s important to get advice first. While most tattoos are eligible for coverage, the more “authentic” the tattoo is, the more difficult it becomes to cover, because tattoos are often the best way to get satiated if the same style is used for the new tattoo. Faces are also generally harder to treat because your artist has to distort a face into a new design. Nevertheless, we recommend that you consult with a tattoo artist to discuss your idea for tattooing so that you can work with him to find the most suitable solution for your situation.

Our philosophy has never been to simply tattoo a scar, but to use the design of a tattoo to distract the viewer’s eye from the scar itself. We do that because some scars need ink while others do not. If you put a well-designed image around the scars, the scars are no longer obvious, even if some spots do not absorb ink. In this case, the tattoo should pull the focus away from the scar or even integrate the scar into the design of the tattoo.

For any tattoo artist. tattoo cover-ups are challenging and sometimes are too prominent to immediately fix.

Not everyone wants to get laser tattoo removal and we would only recommend it to individuals in special circumstances. That being said, fading a tattoo with laser tattoo removal will make the tattoo much easier to cover up. This is because laser tattoo removal can be used to remove specific high impact colors such as black and blue, which will make the cover- up a much more easier and effective process. Your tattoo artist can work with the removal team to tailor your tattoo fading for your cover-up. This will help lead to a better final design for you.  If you intend to fade your tattoo before you start coverage, we recommend that you visit www.tattoo-removal-canada.com. We have often worked with them and they have a good fading procedure. For more information on this topic, see our blog post on laser tattoo removal.
